Description and Rationale
We are a team of 5 trainees at EUROCONTROL in Brussels, from Spain, Italy and France, working in different units across the Agency. Our backgrounds are a mix of air traffic management, aeronautical engineering, data science and operations research, and most of us joined the Agency for a 6 months traineship directly after finishing our studies. Our motivation comes from the format of the challenge. It asks for open data, open code and a paper others can reproduce. As people at the start of an aviation data-related career, that is a rare chance to learn by comparing our work against teams from research, industry and other ANSPs, and to leave something behind that outlives our traineeship. If we finish with a model we understand, a clean repository and an honest write-up of what did not work, we will consider the challenge worth it, whatever the leaderboard says. As a group of Trainees at EUROCONTROL, we acknowledge and accept the two additional conditions: - We would not be eligible for the prize money if we end up among the top-ranked teams; and - We will not use any EUROCONTROL data, relying exclusively on the open datasets.
