Description and Rationale
Who we are
I’m Abhishek Patil, a Data Science and Applications undergraduate at IIT Madras, currently interning as an AI/ML engineer at Fincepta. I’m competing solo under the handle zeroday19. My background is in distributed ML systems, GPU inference optimization, and forecasting on time-series and tabular data, most recently as a Kaggle Gold Medalist (11th of 1,711 globally) in the MITSUI&CO. Commodity Prediction Challenge and a Silver Medalist in the Jane Street Real-Time Market Data Forecasting Competition.
Why I registered
Flight-level operational data is a different beast from the market and commodity data I usually work with: different noise structure, different physical constraints, different failure modes. I registered for the PRC Data Challenge to stress-test my forecasting and feature-engineering toolkit (Polars pipelines, LightGBM/TabM ensembles, drift-aware modeling) on a domain I haven’t already built intuition for.
What I’m hoping to get out of it
A model I’m proud of, plus a sharper understanding of how fuel efficiency and emissions modeling works in aviation, a domain where good predictions have a real environmental impact. It’s also a chance to add another solid result to a track record built on Kaggle and quant-research competitions.
