Description and Rationale
I’m a maker by hand and aviation enthusiast by heart with a background spanning embedded systems, data pipelines, and machine learning — the kind of person who builds physical cockpit panels and flight trackers on my own desk just for fun, and who’s increasingly focused on applying ML to real-world data problems. A dataset of actual European airport movements was hard to pass up: taxi-out time is a problem where physical intuition (congestion, runway/stand assignment, aircraft type) actually pays off in a model, and I wanted to test that intuition against real operational data using proper ML techniques rather than simulated flight-sim traffic. It’s also a good excuse to build a genuinely useful ML pipeline end to end and publish it in the open, in the spirit of the challenge.
