Description and Rationale

I’m Arnav Hemanth, a final-year Computer Science (Data Science) student at Dayananda Sagar Academy of Technology and Management in Bengaluru, India. Solo entry.

Most of what I’ve built is aviation predictive maintenance. My main project is EngineWatch (enginewatch.tech), an interpretable engine health monitoring and remaining-useful-life system trained on NASA’s C-MAPSS turbofan data. It’s deployed and running, not a notebook. The thing I care about there is that every prediction traces back to specific sensors — no deep learning, no post-hoc explanation layer sitting on top of a black box.

I registered because taxi-out is a problem I want to be better at. Engine degradation is slow and physical. Taxi-out is operational — queues, runway configuration, how an airport actually behaves at 07:00 on a Monday. Same tooling, completely different reasoning, and I’d rather learn that against a public leaderboard than on my own.

I’m also curious whether a model you can actually explain stays competitive here. That’s the position I’ve been working from for about a year and I’ve never tested it somewhere the score is public. If it holds up, I want to write it up for JOAS. If it doesn’t, that’s worth writing up too.
