Description and Rationale
I am Andreas Hadjinicolaou, a computer science student at the University of Cyprus, entering my final year. I am entering on my own rather than as part of a research group or a company.
I registered because taxi-out time is the kind of problem I want more practice on: real operational data, a metric nobody can argue with, and a held-out period that settles the question. Most public datasets I have worked with are either toy problems or financial series where almost everything is noise. Airport surface movements are neither, and the drivers are physical and schedulable rather than random.
The other reason is how this challenge is run. Previous editions publish every team’s code and the write-ups go to an open journal, so the work stays useful after the deadline. That is uncommon in data competitions and worth supporting.
